At 6 pm on Tuesday, April 24, the widespread exhibition “ Picasso, the other half of the sky ” was inaugurated, revealing the relationship between the Spanish genius and the women of his life the cities of Ostuni, Mesagne and Martina Franca.
An exceptional guest has opened to visitors the Ostunese exhibition path set up at Palazzo Tanzarella, an ancient structure dating back to the 16th century located in the heart of the historic center, along via Cattedrale, Alessandro Cecchi Paone , known television host, Italian journalist and academic, he had the task of leading the very first guests through the photographs and works that make up the exhibition designed for the White City.
The event was also attended by the writer Fabio Salvatore, creator and host of the famous cultural festival “Magna Grecia”, which recently also made a stop in the White City in its winter role, and the Councilor for Culture of the City of Ostuni Vittorio Carparelli.
Curated and set up by the Metamorfosi cultural association with the organizational and logistic support of Federalberghi Puglia, the consortium of Apulian tourism operators Welcome in Puglia and the collaboration of the three municipalities involved, the exhibition has more than three hundred works, including two hundred pictorial productions and graphics by Picasso, Gilot and Maar.
The photographic works will be at the center of the Ostuni setting, which also includes an original oil painting by Pablo Picasso. Over a hundred original shots by Edward Quinn, the famous American photographer and director who documents, through the shots on display, the Picasso creator and decorator of ceramics. Also on show are some photos of Robert Capa, as well as a series of images created by photographers who portrayed the master while working on his works of art.
“Thanks to Picasso and a series of initiatives that are about to be launched – declares Councilor Carparelli – Ostuni is increasingly becoming a city open to culture and cultural contamination. What we are going to live in the company of Alessandro Cecchi Paone will be a precious moment of aggregation and cultural dissemination, occasion to mention in previews the next edition of the historic Ostuni literary review “An emotion called book”, to be held starting from the next May 31st ».
