“Best Value Destination” assigned by National Geographic to Puglia as the most beautiful region in the world. In short, the Best Value Travel Destination in the World Prize, to a land where it is possible to live unique experiences not only for its sea, its villages, its rural and modern reality, its castles and cathedrals, but above all for its its authenticity and its food and wine. An extraordinary recognition, above all because it concerns a world ranking and not just continental, and which once again demonstrates the tourist wealth of Italy.
The award to Puglia Region, according to National Geographic, was awarded because the region “boasts the best of southern Italy: the rhythms of life, the traditions, the beauty of the places”. This is also confirmed by the prestigious Lonely Planet guide, from the New York Times, which has named a recent article Italy’s Magical Puglia Region.
A real triumph is that reported by a Region that often, like most Italian companies, is at the center of the chronicles for the problems that afflict it and that do not give back a positive image. “Its major cities, like Bari, Lecce and Trani, are much smaller and less full of tourists than Milan and Venice”, writes Lonely Planet “but you can taste some quality wines for nothing expensive, in a region that is the third wine producer and has thirty different qualities of autochthonous grapes “.
Also the tranquility of its extraordinary villages, such as Ostuni or Locorotondo; the incredible enogastronomical tradition of the Gargano and Salento with its products of land and sea; its heavenly beaches, like Punta Prosciutto or Baia dei Turchi; and there is so much to say, also talking about religious tradition or craftsmanship, with papier-mâché, wickerwork, wood or stone sculptures from the famous master stonemasons.
That Puglia was the most beautiful region in the world, says Giovanni D’Agata, president of the “Rights Window”, perhaps we Italians already knew it, and the millions of tourists who choose it every year show it, but National Geographic wanted give this extraordinary land a recognition that, moreover, had been obtained from Puglia as early as 2014.
